Do you feel as I do that the Galactic Republic needed to be destroyed and replaced with the first Galactic Empire.

The Republic was corrupt, and quite literally didnt function effectively. Take the example of the trade federation and the blockade of naboo - TF werent getting what they wanted - they blockade a planet out of greed ( and possibly a *little* co-ercion). the action was, for all intents and purposes, ignored by the republic.. sure they sent a couple of jedi ambassadors to try to deal with the situation, but when they returned to Imperial Centre, what happened in the wake of the revelations of what was taking place on naboo?
the senate didnt believe it for one, and for two they wanted to send a committee to see whether the queen saying that her planet had been invaded by said federation was true or not. hmm...
final point - the republic wasnt really destroyed, more simply reorganised. If you remember there was srill a 'Senate' in ANH - 20 years after RotS. If the republic had been destroyed, the senate surely would have been the first thing to go, as after all, what use is a senate/ democratic entity in what essentially is a dictatorship?

I see your point. But don't you see that the rebel senate is beyond weak. It is practically useless as long as the Empire stands so it might as well not even exist.

...which is why the first real, and legitimate opportunity I had, it was dissolved, and replaced by the system of Regional Governors (Moff's/ Grand Moff's)

It was smart of you to do so.

Gee, I should have voted for you; but I was stuck with Kerry.
Palpatine may have not dissolved the senate because they did all the boring day to day stuff of running things. The senate was much more subordinate than before, since Palpatine was a powerful executive. It probably took some time to set up the newer form of galactic government, the governors. It is hard to imagine a government the size of a galaxy, but it must have been a tremendous beaurocracy.
One thing for sure, he was wise to get rid of that Trade Federation.

Just a thought. If sith are never scared why was Palpatine so afraid of losing his power over the Republic?

to quote Palpatine himself... "He became so powerfull, that the only thing he was afraid of, was losing that power.... Which, of course, eventually he did" He was in love with the sense of absolute control he had over everything on the republic, with the power he had at his disposal.
As for the Trade Federation... they were a large part of what happened to the republic - the blockade, the confederacy, and possibly also the corruption. for an organisation such as the empire to function, certain things would have to be permanently removed, and they were one of those things

It was good that the republic was destroyed in Ep.III and in its place was the Empire. An empirial senate is very differnt than a republic senate. A republic senate goes in many directions a confused mass. Rangeling all the time never getting any thing done. An empirial senate is useally a rubber stamp organization for the dictator to carry out his plans.

the Republic needed to be destroyed. as said by Darth Sidious, it no longer functioned. no kingdom or government has ever lasted forever. the Empire was a great idea, functional and strong. i also agree with Darth Sidious about Palpantine being afraid of losing power. what is the one thing men with power want? more power.

I also think that the empire is better than the old republic. It took too long to decide the jugdement for everything. The empire the emperor was in control.

Good coment Sindo. 10 points for that one. I for one prefer the empire. Too bad the earth is far to backwards. We are stuck with the republic and the Jedi rule, yuk.

If we, on earth, were to be so lucky (even being a bad thing) to have some jedi´s to rule us... the earth politicians are a unruly mob of corrupt thieves. The bringing of a global Empire to the planet would would be a major improvement over everything we know. United we stand, divided we fall.

Nobody, for now, and everybody eventualy. All empires fall, and a empire that doesnt have a language born in it...doesnt stand a chance. its not about military power, its about culture... And the cultute in the USA...well, have seen better.

The United States could become a brilliant empire if they change some of the things in their country now.

There is no real need for a U.S Empire at the moment, but if there was ever life found on other planets with hostiles, then, and only then i think it would be a great idea. Unless Darth Sidious was going to do it.
Darth Sidious Vs George Bush.
I'd pay to see that!!!! lol

pay to see that? hmm..... would depend on how cruel/twisted/sadistic sidious was feeling... otherwise why waste money on something that would last less than a second?

I know this is a bit off topic here, but the other sections were turned off. I went to sign on the new board, and have been waiting quite some time for my confirmation e-mail. How long should I wait? It did not say I did it wrong, but did I? My e-mail is alice33@arczip.com.
