What makes the dark side so appealing?

the dark side allows you to use your emotions to give you power. the ability to control these feelings and use them to achieve that power is outstanding! some give in and lose control. these do not command the dark side. the true dark side masters acknowledge their emotions, but do not allow them to blind.

The Dark Side is the mysterious. Before there was ever Light, there was Dark. Dark is the Father and Light is the Son. Some would call Dark the Mother (depending on your tradition). Dark is not evil. It was around before evil and good even existed. Our emotions can lead us straight to this Dark if we follow them to the Source. The Dark truly is what the Force itself is, because that is what it was before it made the universe.

My husband Anakin became Darth Vader and went to the dark side. I love Anakin so I went to the dark side with him. The dark side is where the power of the Force sits and in a tough world like this one it is best one is a Sith because to be weak is to be chewed up and spat out. The majority of people on planet earth voted for this harsh way of life so I am making do.

The Dark Side is the ultimate nature of the Force. It is the pure, unadulterated power which comes from abandoning the narrow-minded, dogmatic Jedi teachings. We use the Dark Side without restraint, without fear of its power and in return it bestows abilities that confound the Jedi upon us.

The darkside is what feeds my emotions. The darkside is an everlasting hunger, it drives me for more POWER!! The darkside is true passion, by letting your strenght flow through your anger. The darkside gives me vision, by vision, I gain ambition, by ambition, I conquer. The darkside feeds my soul with hate. the hate to maul anyone who gets in my way. I am forever, hear my name for it will be ingraved in Korriban... DARTH... RAGEOUS. I am SITH... remember the name.

Hmmm, indeed. I take it you all do follow the code, and not just repeat the teachings?

There are probably varying interpretations as to what the Dark Side is and being a Sith is all about. This would be true of anyone here. Is there a difference of what Sith believe and follow in the books as opposed to the movies? Or is it more or less the same code?
I have mostly followed the movies (haven't had time to read much). I sort of read between the lines a bit. The lines themselves would be "canon" of course; any reading inbetween is interpretation. It seems Jedi claim a sort of altruism, sort of a not for the self but for the other sort of thing (and yet, they are hypocritical). A Sith openly wants the use of the Force for power, power to reach some goal.
The question is, if you did get that sort of power, what would you do with it? What did the Sith in the books want it for? Was it to conquer the galaxy or some other desire?
