Weak the one word that I can use to describe the imperial star fleet yes the Satr destroyers are fairly tough but what about the fighters. They always seem to outnumber their opponents but they never seem to win. I for one think that fighters need to be equiped with sheilds.

The Imperial Star Fleet is in no way, shape or form weak. Most of the Empire's starfighters were designed to be cheap and quick/easy to produce. equipping them with Shield Gen's would have meant sacrificing speed, maneuverability, and possibly even firepower, and would also have required a larger power source.
Given the apparent surplus of trained TIE Pilots, and the fact that the empire doesnt appear to particularly be too bothered about their pilots, equiping them all with SD's would have been considered wastefull. Remember that in a fighter aircraft the main qualities sought for are speed and maneuverability. Why needlessly sacrifice these for a bit of extra protection for what is a cheap, mass-produced fighter?

Agreed that a shield genorator could put tie fighters at a disadvantage but don't you think that if a shield was put on and it didn't handicap the fightre or production of the fighter it would be a huge difference maker for the entire Imperial star fleet?

potentially yes, but installing such without and kind of losses to the fighters abilities would be impossible

best to think of the tie fighters as japanese zero's. Also what you don't see much is the Tie-Defender. Which was the answer to the shield problem. Also the tie interceptor increased the deadliness of the tie's assault power.
Perhaps the Empire should have kept the Arc fighters around. The ones reminiscent of the X wing we saw in Ep3. Those were tough as nails.

TIE Defenders were extremely expensive to produce, although i dont know the 'figures'. afaik the empire figured it was better to have an awfull lot of cheap fighters, although they did plan around the time of the Battle of Endor to replace all TIE/Fighters with the Interceptors, but it never happened. sure the ARC fighters looked good, but thety seemed to get destroyed/ shot down rather easily

on paper, they were really tough. The movie was very inaccurate. Just like how Grievous only had 3 lightsabers and got killed by a blaster. In the cartoon and books he could take on 10 jedi at a time and win easily. Movie was very inaccurate.

He was a pupil of Count Dooku, behaved just as a Sith would, fought like the Sith, and wore the trappings of a Sith, and fought on the Side of the sith... How is he not Sith?

Dooku probably let him believe he was a Sith, but in reality he was cannon fodder. He may have promised him that he would be "the" Sith apprentice after wiping out Palpatine. I think Dooku was waiting for his moment to do in Palpatine when he got the chance. The thing is, Palpatine knew it, so he disposed of him first.

Was there anything in the republic that Palpatine didnt have his hand in? my opinion has always been that palpatine sets these things in motion all by himself, knows everything that is going on, why it is happening, and influences it to his advantage... any chance people could *try* to keep to the relevant topics though?

Absolutly. I want to know if any body could have foreseen that the ships of the republic would eventually become the ships of the empire I for one thought that the empire had built theur own ships.

I think you would find that the ships built during the last part of the republic era were not used for long by the Imperial forces - sure they look similar in many ways, but they also look an awfull ot smaller than your average Star Destroyer. I think that those were just used essentially for transportation for the republic's army, as you only ever see them fighting once, but that their basic design's were held over for re-use in the later classes of capital starships

I'm sure the Empire had a beefed-up military budget and could have bigger and better ships built.
