he cannot actually use force powers, people claim can can use one power, that is force speed whereas in fact he is a mechanical robot so obviously he can boost his agility...all round he is not a sith nor a jedi (OBVIOUSLY )...therefore he remains in the ranks of an 'outcast'...a neutral form of wellbeing

drawing back to the subject. with regards to the Imperial Navy being "weak," the fighters used by the Empire were, at the time more advanced than Rebel fighters. i love playing the computer games TIE fighter and X-wing. a TIE fighter will fly circles around an X-wing and a TIE interceptor will fly circles around anything! i view the problem as the Rebel Alliance were supposed to win. end of story. TIE defenders are awesome and for Darth Sidious, the figure is over 300,000 credits per TIE defender. that is 5 times more expensive than the standard TIE fighter. also when Grand Admiral Thrawn made his bid for power, he outfitted TIE interceptors with shield generators.

I agree with Lord Exar Kun basically. The Imperial Navy would have a big enough budget to make the fighters and weaponry necessary for any battle. The Republic portrayed in Ep.I-III is a collapseing republic, there for it would suffer the fate of all regimes on the wane. The republic would have old buildings, a collapsed infrastructer like that of any third would place. On the other hand the New forming galactic Empire would be fresh and dynamic so things would be at there best. Riseing governments always do better than collapseing ones.

As for the tie fighter weakness of lacking a shield generator, i think the best option would be ia mixture of both things. on a attack grup, a first batch of Tie´s, equiped w/ shield would blast they way trough the enemy´s defenses, acting like a batterie ramm, while the remaining of the fighters would nimble they way into the enemy. A joint attack like these would bring foward both advantages, the Tie Fighter manouvrability, without having to overload the budget by building lots of Tie Defenders. Racionality is the path of the Sith.

TIE fighters are definitly NOT unefficent. there are hundreds coming off the assembly line every day. things don't get any more efficent. TIE fighters are built for space superiority. when there are thousands of TIEs flying around a small group of rebel fighters, there is no chance. if Tarkin had launched the entire complement of TIE fighters on board the first Death Star, the rebels would have been crushed. even with the small group of TIE fighters under Vader's command, only a small number of rebel fighters survived that assault.

Now just imagine what would have happened if they had any kind of Force manipulating capability. A squadron would be enough to impose peace trough out the galaxy.
