But we know this. The Rebels did in Return of the Jedi.
But you must really mean, what if another Sith overthrew Palpatine. What if there was no Luke.
Vader considered Palpatine a friend, so he was in no hurry; however, if Palpatine got senile or was slipping up to much, Vader might have considered it his Sithly duty and removed him. But what if Palpatine outlived Vader. Due to his injured condition, Vader could have died young. Palpatine would have to choose somebody new. This person would be waiting for his/her moment to move in on Palpatine's territory.
But of course this wouldn't happen. Mrs. Vader and the Empress would never allow it. Hell hath no fury like a loyal Sith Lord's wife!!!!

I think that his overthrow would be more seeable than a sith standing loyally at his side because sith desire power over all things and if you kill palpatine power is what you get.

if there had been an overthrow by another Sith, then Palpantine was obviously not strong enough to lead. it is the way of the Sith to seek power. the weak have no place.

I like the idea of Vader being loyal to Palpatine and Palpatine being loyal to Vader. To have no friends at all and only competers is out of balance. Palpatine said he believed in useing both the dark side of the Force and the light side of the force. A Sith can protect the ones the Sith loves. You can not run a country (galaxy) on barbarism alone. Law and order must be maintained, which means you must have a group of loyal cadre to enforce your orders. Even a dictator needs the suport of a large number of people or he will be over thrown.
